Symposia

The annual Project Threadways Symposium brings together scholars, activists, makers, and thinkers to present research, share stories, and encourage dialogue about the connection between material culture and making—from our community to others around the globe. Presentations, dinners, tours, and workshops create a multi-day experience in Florence, Alabama.

THE COLLECTIVE: TEXTILES AS COMMUNITY

April 20-22, 2023

Florence, Alabama

Join us April 20-22, 2023, as we explore the power of small groups to create big changes through the everyday act of making. Project Threadways will share stories of those who have gathered to weave, craft, sew, and tuft—and, in doing so, created economic opportunity, organized resistance, and achieved self-determination from their work.

FRIENDS OF THE CAFE DINNERS

Since 2014, Alabama Chanin’s Friends of the Café dinners have nurtured a community around a commitment to responsible and sustainable practices. Today, proceeds from the dinners benefit Project Threadways and our mission. Join us for good food, good company, and smart conversations.
